Furnace Repair or Replace
For many homeowners, the decision to replace or repair their existing furnaces can be a dilemma. There are some questions you can ask yourself to help make a decision.
For some homeowners, it could be a case of necessity especially if there is a cracked heat exchanger that can cause carbon monoxide leaks into the home creating a dangerous condition.
The age of the existing furnace – If the furnace is 15 years old or older and needs costly repairs it should be replaced rather than putting money into an old unit. If you have had a history of problems with your existing furnace perhaps it is time to replace
Cost of furnace repairs – If you need to spend $500 or more to repair an old furnace you are better off replacing it?
Any savings of repairing versus replacement will likely be wiped out with energy cost savings from a new more efficient furnace in a few short years. With manufacturer warranties on a new furnace it will also give you worry free heating.
Your plans to stay in the home – If you plan to stay in your existing home for several years check your potential heating bill savings with a more efficient furnace.
